AlephZero is a catalog for mathematics, programming, computer science, and artificial intelligence. We collect only the information needed to operate accounts, publish the catalog, run contests, communicate with readers, and protect the service.
Information we handle
When you create or maintain an account, we handle your public handle, email address, password hash, account role, verification status, profile details you choose to add, and security timestamps. AlephZero does not store your password in readable form.
When you participate, we may associate your account with articles you author, votes, contest entries, and other actions you deliberately take. A public article may show your handle or chosen author name. Private credentials and contest answer keys are not published.
For security and reliability, the service records operational timestamps and limited request information. Abuse-prevention counters use keyed hashes derived from identifiers such as an IP address or account identifier rather than storing those identifiers in the counter itself.
How information is used
- To create, verify, authenticate, recover, and secure accounts.
- To display articles, attribution, votes, contest activity, and catalog history.
- To send activation, recovery, security, and essential service messages.
- To prevent abuse, investigate faults, and maintain the integrity of permanent catalog coordinates.
- To meet legal obligations and enforce AlephZero’s terms.
Cookies and local storage
AlephZero uses a session cookie to keep signed-in readers authenticated and a CSRF cookie to protect form submissions. The interface may store preferences such as light or dark theme, reading state, and device-local interactions in your browser. These values support the feature you selected; they are not advertising trackers.
Retention
Account information is kept while an account is active and for as long as reasonably necessary for security, dispute resolution, legal obligations, and the integrity of published catalog records. Backups and security records may persist for limited operational periods after primary data changes. Published articles and their catalog coordinates are intended to remain part of the public scholarly record, though personal attribution requests will be considered individually.
Your choices
You can update available profile fields from your account page. You may ask to access, correct, or delete eligible personal information, or object to certain processing, by contacting us. Some requests may be limited where information must be retained for security, legal compliance, or the integrity of a public publication record.
AlephZero is not directed to children who cannot lawfully consent to this processing. A parent or guardian who believes a child has provided personal information should contact us.
